“Took you long enough!” Trinity was sitting on one of the many boulders. Her stomach grumbled loudly. “C’mon! Hand over the goods!” As Banna showed her the basket, Trinity’s jaw dropped.
“Where’d you get this?”
“I just happened to trip over it in the middle of a troll ridden forest!” Banna smiled sarcastically. “Heh, Kelk gave it to me!” Immediately, Banna wished she had said anything other than the truth. Trinity shot up, her eyes wide. Taking two strides over to her sister, Trinity grabbed her wrist.
“You met him again!!!” She shouted. Graz’gorg came over, this time without shouting or flailing. “Banna! Why are you meeting strange people in the middle of a forest?!?” Banna cringed.
“He’s not strange! I’ve met him twice now! Look, he gave us food!! I know you’re starving! – Ow! That hurts!” Trinity was squeezing Banna’s wrist so hard she was afraid it would shatter. It was all Graz’gorg could take to maintain a decent posture, while all this anger was bouncing off his master.
“Have you eaten any of it?” She asked Banna.
“No! But I’m about to if you- WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” Trinity grabbed the basket of food and threw it in the river. “You idiot!” Banna screamed, plunging after it. “That was OUR FOOD!” Banna could only watch as the basket floated down the river and out of sight.
“Fool.” Trinity shook her head. “That food might have been poisoned!” Banna groaned. “Why would you think something THAT stupid? Kelk has no reason to poison me!” Trinity bent down to her soaking sister and whispered in her ear
“I wasn’t talking about you.” Banna still had no idea what was going on. Finally after she and Trinity had calmed down, Banna blamed it on Trinity just being angry that Kelk hadn’t shown himself to her yet.
“<Belbis…where…where is the…. >- Oh damnit! What’s that word?!!” Banna sat next to Belbis, who was eyeing Banna eagerly. For some reason, Belbis had quieted dramatically sense the meeting with Kelk. Trinity hadn’t noticed, her imp was a good imp, a calm imp. Trinity never expected anything other than that. Of course, Banna was stuck with insane, twisted, pyro-maniac imp. Fortunately, Belbis was bound to whatever Banna said, so if that was ‘no burning the entire forest to ash’ he had to remain compliant, but he usually complained more.
Trinity sat next to Banna. Her mood had also lightened after the food problem. It was a little less than two months from that day, and Trinity and Banna’s hunting skills had only gotten worse. Fortunately, with the combined effort of Graz’gorg and Belbis, they caught, killed, and cooked a few decent dishes. ‘Decent’ of course, was much better than whatever Trinity had attempted.
“Wand, my dear, is Frak’og” Trinity smirked. “<Belbis, > “ trinity turned to the imp. “< Does Banna always have such an accent? > “ Belbis burst into laughter, shaking his tiny head up and down violently. Banna’s face burned.
“Would you cut it out?”
“If you had paid more attention to what father had taught me, you might know what we’re saying. “
“I was six!”
“Its never to early to start.” Belbis looked from one girl to another, and then sighed. “ ” Trinity or Banna didn’t pay attention to him. Continuing their argument, Belbis sat down, his tail swishing behind him. “ <You humans love to talk to each other in common. I never really liked how it sounded. But Ban is always talking to that human that sits in the trees, it’s really- > ” Both Trinity and Banna looked at him. Banna had caught only a part of what he had said, but judging by Trinity’s quick glare, Banna knew he had given something away.
“ < Belbis, would you mind repeating what you just said? >” Trinity’s voice was very cheerful sounding. Behind her, Banna held one finger in front of her throat ‘Say anything, you will be thrown into the second hell’ Belbis might be moronic, but he could tell a threat when he saw one.
“ < Ooooh! Did I say HUMAN? I meant CHIPMUNK!! Ban is ALWAYS talking to a CHIPMUNK in the trees! >” Neither Trinity, nor Banna, or even Graz’gorg (Who was passing on his patrol) could understand what depths the imp had in his tiny brain to come up with such a meager response as that, all the same, he placed a smile on his face, revealing very many pointed teeth. Trinity turned on her sister.
“You know how much I love chipmunks…right, Trin?”
(Two months earlier)
Without food or drink, Trinity and Banna went to bed in a heated mood. When Banna felt Trinity’s calm breath on her neck, (Quite a feat, proving she was five feet away) she knew her sister had fallen into a deep slumber. Raising herself, and jumping out of the tent, she breathed the cool night air .’Everything is calm at night’ Or so their father said. ‘No matter how much happens, someone somewhere is breathing in the calm night air.’ Banna did so, then set off for the forest.
Her attempt was cut short, by the appearance of Graz’gorg. He looked at his master’s younger sister for a moment, why wasn’t she sleeping? Void Walkers are not meant for their wisdom. Warlocks are the brains, their minions are the brawn, neither could work without each other. Unfortunately, without Trinity at his side, the blue blob had no idea what to do. Finally deciding that Banna forgot where her bed was, he wrapped his arms around her and pushed her back into the clearing, at least he would have if Banna hadn’t hissed.
“Trinity does not want you to stop me from going out!” Instantly, the Void Walker dropped the girl. Brushing off dead leaved from her night robe, she whispered at him “Trinity also does not want to know I am leaving at night.” Graz’gorg could not understand why Trinity wouldn’t want to know something she agreed about, but if it was what his master wanted, he would remain loyal.
Banna leapt through the forest, she knew the sun would rise all too early. Finding the spot where she had met Kelk, she turned east. She hopped she could make it before he went to sleep. The last thing she needed was to startle the only other person in this forest with sense!
(Kelk)
Kelk had built a fire inside his tent. He was cooking soup for dinner, now that he was finished, he walked over to the river for water to put it out with. To Kelk’s surprise, a very familiar basket bobbed on the shore. Grabbing it, he dumped its contents on the grass. Four bread rolls and a half-pound of mutton slopped onto the ground. ‘She knows who I am’ He thought. ‘It seems that Trinity is smarter than we assumed.’
“Kelk!”
‘Damnit!’
Spinning around wildly, Kelk found himself face to face with Banna. Her breath was on his face, she was so close. He saw every eyelash on her face, her pupils shrinking in her perfectly poised eye. Each strand of hair as it, wait, he was too close to her! “AHh!” He yelled, taking a step backward to maintain a decent posture, his food struck the sodden basket. ‘This won’t end well’ Kelk fell backward and submerged into the water. The icy cold river gripped his lungs, forcing the little air he had in him. “Help!” he choked as he flailed around. Banna could only stare. Kelks night robe dragged him down, he flopped his useless arms around him, hoping in vain to keep him aloft.
Finally recovering from her shock, Banna knelt down to grab his arm, but at the exact moment, Kelk sunk below the water.
“Oh for the Light!” Banna screamed at nothing. “Doesn’t the fool know how to swim?” Banna dove into the water.
The water was dark and murky. Banna’s eyes stung as she looked around for the boy. Spotting him, his eyes were closed and his mouth was open. Not a good sign. Propelling toward him she put one arm around his middle and started kicking upward. He was heavier than expected, and Banna found her lungs craving air. Shooting toward the surface, she inhaled a large amount of oxygen. Sputtering, Banna swam to the shore, crawling onto it, she dragged Kelk behind her.
“Oh no, oh no!” She panicked. “What am I supposed to do? If she had only trained in healing arts instead of dark ones! There must be something to help him!
Suddenly, Kelk coughed. Water spilled out of him lips and onto the ground. Banna panicked even further.
‘This is bad, this is bad, this is bad!’ Suddenly, his hands twitched, and a glowing light spilled around him. It seamed, to the young warlock that golden dust had fallen onto his broken physique. Banna felt her hands sting, looking upon the tatoo of her mark; a long string of dots with a tiny hand in the middle. Her symbol, Banna Childs. She had no idea what was going on! But all of a sudden, Kelk sat up. Aside from being compleatly waterlogged, he looked fine. Almost as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened.
“Hi Banna!” He smiled. Then fell to the ground, knocked out.
